Staff are returning to the NHS in record numbers

Almost 12,000 retired doctors, nurses and medics have answered the call to arms and are returning to frontline duties to fight the coronavirus.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock paid tribute to those NHS staff, who he said had ‘returned in our hour of need.’

Mr Hancock said that 2,660 doctors and around 2,500 other health professionals had returned to work.

He added that on top of that, there were 6,147 nursing staff giving up their retirement to help the UK in its time of need.
